Here are the days of the Chol Q’ij mapped onto the Gregorian month of February 2026.
We start the Gregorian month with the archaeoastronomical day known as Imbolc. This is the exact midpoint between the December solstice and the March equinox, and in the Celtic calendar is seen as the first day of spring. In this cycle it falls on 3rd February 2026 at 19:45 UTC
Later in the month, we have the big celebration of the Maya solar new year. The process begins on 13th February 2025 which initiates the five closing days of Tz’apin Q’ij of the Macehual Q’ij, the highland solar calendar. These are days of introspection which some groups would say are best spent in isolation. For this reason, public gatherings and ceremonies are not held by traditionalists on these days as the energy is thought to be without direction.
Interestingly there is a hugely significant day on the final day of the Tz’apin Q’ij, 13 Kame (17th February 2026). The energy of 13 Kame is powerful on its own, but this time around, in addition to falling in the Tz’apin Q’ij, it is also marked by a solar eclipse. Additionally, according to the Dresden Codex, Venus will reappear as an evening planet on this day. Putting all of these things together may bring some powerful events.
We then welcome the new Mam, 1 Kej, to carry the burden of time for the next 365 days, on 18th February with a great ceremony.

The Jun E’ Journey
Are you feeling ready for a new adventure? Perhaps some time trekking intentionally in the jungle of northern Guatemala would satisfy your need for a disconnection from the modern world. The Jun Ajpu journey has filled up, but I was approached to see if it would be possible to make another journey in spring of 2026. I checked the calendar and found another auspicious trecena, the trecena of E’, would fall within the trekking period. The Jun E’ journey will take place between April 23rd and May 4th 2026.
