Here are the days of the Chol Q’ij mapped onto the Gregorian month of October 2025.
Wajxakib B’atz, the most important day of the sacred calendar, falls on 5th October 2025. Wajxakib B’atz is the renewal of the ceremonial cycle. It is a day on which new Aj Q’ij’ab are initiated and a day of celebration of the sacred calendar itself.
As the darker nights begin to arrive (in the Northern Hemisphere), we are treated to a greater number of celestial events. During this time we will have both the Draconid meteor shower on the 7th, and the Orionid meteor shower, one of the most spectacular I have ever personally observed, on the 21st. This year, the timing of the Draconid meteor shower will be close to the full moon. This will wash out the sky and make the shower much less visible. However, the Orionids coincide with the New Moon making them an excellent prospect for visibility. They will be best viewed around 4.30 am on the morning of the 21st, but will likely produce meteors a day on either side of this too!
For those of you with a clear view to the West, Mercury will be at its greatest Eastern elongation (highest point in the evening sky ) on the 29th just after sunset.
