Here are the days of the Chol Q’ij mapped on to the Gregorian month of February 2023.

In this Gregorian month we have a big event, the new solar year. The arrival of the solar year begins with the five days of Tz’apin Q’ij  (Wayeb), which starts on 6 Kej  (14th February) and lead us up to the new solar year 11 E’ (19th February.) This should bring a change in energy, from the  year of 10 Kej, which we have been experiencing since February 19th 2022.

From an astronomical point of view, Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF will make its closest approach to Earth on 1st February, and should be brightening up to that point. It won’t be as spectacular as Neowise was in 2020, but it will probably be visible to the naked eye by then. From an archaeoastronomical point of view, the cross quarter day of Imbolc, considered to be the Celtic first day of spring, occurs on February 4th. It is the midpoint between winter solstice spring equinox and is a time of rebirth and new beginnings, when the ewes begin to birth and the snowdrops begin to flower.
