6 No’j (25th November 2024)

6 N'ojThe energy of the day 6 No’j can bring divinely inspired ideas of how to move through obstructions on the path. These ideas may be practical and relevant in the physical world, yet simultaneously fulfil a greater purpose.

No’j, the nawal of the brain and thought is embellished by the number 6 which brings a higher essence into the physical ideas. Today, answers may come from the unseen world.

As the trecena of E’ unfolds, today we are entering the balanced period, the sixth, seventh and eighth days which are considered to be some of the easier days to negotiate. The energies of these days are generally conducive in combination with the nawales they are paired with. The E’ trecena can be a time not just of a new direction or new path, but also of discoveries.

The day 6 No’j would suggest a little help comes from the other realms to help piece together the new ideas and information you may be discovering in this journey. The path is not always straight and even, sometimes there are blockages and obstructions to overcome.

Veintena Nabe Tumuxux

We are now heading into the darkest time of the year, here in the Northern Hemisphere and in our second step towards that time we move into a month known as Nab’e Tumuxux, which is associated with the first season of flying ants.

The Nawal No’j

A depiction of the Earth Lord, the patron of the day Caban (N'oj). <yoastmark class=

The nawal No’j is the nawal of thought, of intelligence and intellect. Within the count of days, there are two geniuses. B’atz is the creative genius, and No’j is the intellectual one. No’j is an energy of masculine, logical thought. As the problem solver, it gives ideas and solutions which work in the real world. No’j gives a different way of understanding situations, and through this ability comes innovation. It is thought, but also understanding and, indeed, knowing. As such, No’j is also a day associated with divination.

This energy is not necessarily social, it can lead to becoming absorbed into one’s work, lost in one’s thoughts. The influence of No’j can create ideas which may be very much ahead of their time. Do not be surprised if ideas you have on this day take a little time to catch on. The people you express the ideas to may need a little time to process, to see the genius within the idea. No’j is also one of the classic year-bearers or year lords. As a year bearer, it is thought to be one of the more beneficial and benign energies.

The Number Six

The number six is said to be the number of ultimate stability. It is the first of the three middle numbers of the cycle, the balance point. Thus, ceremonies are often made on six days thanks to their conducive energy.

The number 6 carries the qualities of the number 4, but has an extra axis. If we think of the number four representing the cardinal points, the number six adds a vertical axis to these. It brings in the Heart of the Sky and the Heart of the Earth. The number six has the stability of the number four embellished by the masculine and feminine principals. If the number four represents the physical world and the number 6 represents the physical world animated by the life force energy.

Thus, it also represents family, relating to the six qualities which hold families together – health, understanding, property, employment, friendship and actions.

12 No’j (5th November 2024)

12 N'ojIntellect with experience solves problems. On this day of the return of the Mam, past experiences pairs with knowledge, possibly bringing new relevance to old ideas.

No’j, is the nawal of the brain, the problem solver is a bringer of inspiration and solutions. Every day we learn something new in general our level of experience rises as we travel our life path. Some of this is of immediate use and some of it seems irrelevant at the time, but it all seems to get filed away somewhere. Sometimes those concepts or ideas become relevant with the perspective we gain as we move further along our life path.

As we come towards the end of our journey through the Kame trecena, the time of our spiritual transformation, we might ask ourselves what we choose to transform into. What is our grand plan and how can we make it happen?

The combination of the energy of the nawal No’j with the energy of the number 12 gathers our past thoughts and ideas together, as our life experience joins them into one unified plan. The intellect and problem solving abilities No’j bestows could give the opportunity to put together parts of our personal jigsaw that we couldn’t recognise as relevant before.

Veintena Takaxepual – Return of the Mam

Within the solar calendar, today marks the beginning of a new month as we travel through the solar year. Today is the first day of Takaxepual known as the season of first sowing. It is 260 days since the Mam 12 No’j took his seat, you can read more abour that here. This should mark the point in the year where the rain ceases to fall and we move into the dry months before the new Mam, 13 Iq’, takes his seat in 105 days time.

It is particularly interesting that this takes place just before astronomical cross quarter day of Samhain (November 7th). This point of the year is exactly midway (45 days) between the Equinox and the Solstice. It was considered the first day of winter in the Celtic calendar. It is seen as the death of the Sun god. The sun descends into the underworld where it will remain until Imbolc (Feb 3rd 2025). Regardless of the hemisphere there is a particular alignment which is happening. It is said to be an opening of portals to the otherworld.

This could suggest that the power of the Mam 12 No’j will go through a change at this point of the year, the original strength diminished after being used throughout the growing season. The year lord could be seen as having done his work and now enters a period of retirement, so perhaps the intensity this year lord has been demonstrating may be softened.

The Number 12

The number 12 is the penultimate number. In some ways it can be seen as the last Earthly number, the number 13 representing the spirit world. We travelled through the mortal world with 1 through 6, then the other world with 7 through 12. In this way 12 can be seen as a point of bringing all of the experiences into one bundle for presentation to the spirit world as we step into 13. As such, the number 12 brings a wealth of experience into one place, it is rather like writing an autobiography. It is totality, all that is, brought together.

11 No’j (26th September 2024)

11 N'ojThis is a day for “those free-thinking types”  with a myriad of genius ideas. However,  finding a logical train of thought may be challenging.

Most days which carry the number 11 can be a little confusing, to say the least. The strong energy of the 11, combined with its lack of true direction, can lead to situations where you don’t know where you are, or where you are going, although you are sure you are in the right place.

However, the energy of the nawal No’j may bring some stability to this through its logic. It may be a day of many thoughts and ideas which seem to form some kind of cohesive structure from a certain point of view. You may need to patiently observe your thoughts until the end of the day to understand where the trail is leading. In fact, today you might come up with the rather left-field thoughts that were the missing pieces of your master plan.

Veintena Iskal

Within the solar calendar, today marks the beginning of a new period as we travel through the solar year. Today is the first day of Iskal translated as the season of sprouts and shoots. New growth may be occurring as the heaviest rains of the year are often now falling. There are only 40 days now left until the the repeat of the day 12 No’j, in the period of Tacaxepual, the second appearance of the year lord.

The Number 11

The number 11 is a high and odd number. This gives it some rather challenging properties, although it can come good in the end. Imagine you visit Ireland and are transfixed by the green of the hills. Then you go to Morocco and are awed by the red of the buildings. Then you go to the Caribbean and are moved by the turquoise sea. You return home and paint a beautiful picture using those colours. When you were in Ireland you didn’t know you were going to paint that masterpiece. You may not have even known why you were there.  This is how 11 works. You are sure you need to be doing something, but unsure why. You are collecting experience through many wanderings.

3 No’j (28th July 2024)

3 N'ojThis is a day to focus on finding the answers within rather than looking for solutions outside. The nawal of the brain, thought and inspiration combines with the number of home and inner creativity.

Day 3 No’j can present challenges around the ability to think clearly. This may manifest as some kind of block, but also it might lead to inappropriate action. If a problem needs to be solved logically, it would be better to put it off to another day with a more conducive energy. This may be a day where the ideal tasks will be the more mundane ones which don’t require too much thought.

However, there is a positive side to the energy of the number three and this has to do with creation. It gives rise to a time to go inside, to focus the creative thought process within. Choosing to focus on solutions around your home may be more conducive trying to solve problems in the outer world. Be gentle on those around you who seem to be acting thoughtlessly, you might be just as lost as them today. This is a perfect day for retreat and meditation, to focus on the knowledge you already hold within you. It is from this inner work that the answers may come.

Veintena Kaqan

Within the Macewal Q’ij, today marks the beginning of a new month as we travel through the solar year. Today is the first day of Kaqan translated as the season of red clouds.  The energy of the fields is diminishing as the crop ceases to grow any higher and starts to move more rapidly into the ripening process. It is during this time that the sun will make its zenith passage here once again (August 13th) and will return to its place in the southern sky.

The Nawal No’j

The Number Three

There are various myths about the creation which link with the number 3. One is that at the time of creation, three stone jumped out of the fireplace and formed the new world. These three stones are called the hearthstones, and are still seen in many Maya homes today, on the fire supporting the tortilla griddle. From an astronomical point of view, the stones are the stars Alnitak, Saiph and Rigel in the constellation we call Orion, and the Smoky Fireplace is the Great Orion Nebula (M42)

The number 3 is still in the low end of the range of numbers. It does not have much energy yet, and it is also an odd number. It can represent the home, relating to the three hearthstones laid by the creators, and this is probably a good focus for a 3 day. However, it is possibly the most troublesome of the numbers to deal with, it lacks stability and represents challenges and obstructions. The number three brings up internal/external dilemma. The lack of stability in the physical, external world that it brings suggests that the more appropriate action is to look to the internal world, both of the home and of yourself.

9 No’j (8th July 2024)

9 N'ojThe day 9 No’j can be seen as a day of feminine logic. It is a marriage of the masculine, square, logical No’j, with the feminine, rounded, artistic nine.

Today might be a day when feminine problems may be resolved with masculine logic and masculine problems resolved with feminine intuition. It can be seen as the union of the left and right hemispheres of the brain. 9 No’j brings a day of particular inspiration, with the possibility for the emergence of true genius. This is enlivened with the energy of the number 9 with its connection with the divine feminine and life energy. This would also bring in the energy of the heart. I have heard this referred to as the holy trinity, left brain, right brain and heart working together. In turn, this can create the best possible solutions, bringing sustainable, compassionate, beautiful ideas into practicality. This is the ideal day for an ideas circle within your community.

The number 9 is also said to represent life itself and brings this into the mix. It is a day to pay attention to ideas inspired by life, and a day when realistic resolutions of life’s problems may emerge. This may particularly come through a feminine channel. It is most certainly a day to ask for practical solutions from the women around us.

Veintena Tz’ikin Q’ij

This day, 9 No’j, represents the beginning of a new month within the solar calendar. The month of Tz’ikin Q’ij is associated with the time of the birds. There is a way that it could be translated as bird day, or bird sun. Perhaps this follows on as the rainy season progresses and there is an abundance of food for the birds, creating a great deal of bird activity. However, this is also the time of year when the corn planted at the solar zenith, around April 30th by the lake, will be coming to ripeness. Therefore, this may be the time to watch out that the birds don’t steal the harvest.

No’j is also one of the classic year-bearers or year lords. As a year bearer, it is thought to be one of the more beneficial and benign energies.

2 No’j (18th June 2024)

The energy of the nawal No’j often brings practical solutions to problems, and today the number 2 highlights polarities. This brings the ability to solve problems by understanding both sides of the issue.

How can we begin to resolve an issue if we only have information from one source? The number 2 can highlight duality. It is binary, a one or a zero. There is no fraction or space in between, it is one or the other. This can bring conflicting information, but how can an impasse be breached if both sources can be verified as true? Naturally, balance is always required for a true and long-lasting solution and today that information might come from polar opposites.

The second day of the trecena of forgiveness, the day 2 No’j, enables us to understand different points of view. No’j helps us to think things through. Its intellect and intelligence empowers our thought processes to come up with the most appropriate solution. However, if we approach problem solving from a unilateral standpoint, we may miss important issues. 2 No’j brings us the ability to encompass both. Days carrying the energy of the number 2 are always good for mediation. Here we see it particularly linked with intelligent solutions.

With the number 2 highlighting relationships, this could also be a day to resolve any friction within partnerships. One of the challenges for No’j is not to overthink situations. However, with the lower number 2 this is unlikely. If the thoughtfulness of No’j can be applied to relationships today it is likely to come up with a genius answer. This solution is likely to satisfy the needs of both parties.

Veintena Rukub Pach

This day, 2 No’j, represents the beginning of a new month within the solar calendar. The month of Rukab’ Pach is associated with the second season of hen hatching. It marks the time of the year in the northern hemisphere, where the sun is present for the longest period, the growing season is at its greatest potential. Sometimes we can look as cycles as learning and then implementation, often the first or upwards part can be the learning part. If we apply this to the idea of the year lords, perhaps it is the first 140 days that we are learning to adjust to the energy of the new Mam, and here we have reached the pinnacle. It is time to “hatch out” the lesson and use the fullness of the solar energy to propel us forward in our new work.

The Number Two

The number 2 is representative of duality, of polarity. Although a low number, it has surprising strength. It is said to be able to call upon both aspects or polarities of what it is attached to. It is said to be the number of lovers, it signifies relationships and self-sacrifice. Whilst it can lend itself to mediation, seeing both sides of the story, it also can be indecisive.

7 No’j (19th April 2024)

The energy of the day 7 No’j may see knowledge and theories from different sources coalescing to form one combined idea as the plan is finalised. Today, the nawal No’j combines with the number 7, the number of endings and finality. This suggests that now is the time to finalise plans. These plans may be coming from many directions. This may lead to some confusion as to which ones to develop. This is the day to make the decision. From this vantage point, you can see them all for what they are. The problem-solving intellect of No’j and the balance and finality of the number 7 should give rise to extremely practical solutions for conclusion. Within the cycle of the year are many sub-cycles. I often mention the cycle of the trecenas, but here is another, the 20-day cycle. The theme of this 20-day cycle, from 7 No’j to 1 No’j, should be finishing off one plan or set of ideas so that   new ideas can be born in the future. Therefore, the energy of today should bring a drive to get things finished off. This drive should continue for the next 20 days.

Veintena Nab’e Toqik

7 No’j will also see, this solar year, the beginning of the month Nabe’ Toqik. This is associated with the first harvest of the Cacao. It is the fourth month of the solar calendar since the new year began on 12 No’j, back in February.

The Number Seven

If we imagine the numbers 1 through 13 as a pyramid, the number seven would be at the top. Seven is the number of balance, it gives the ability to weigh up situations and see all points of view. While this may be very noble, it may lead to indecision. However, it is also known as a number of death and endings, which would seem strange as it is only half way through. It is another representation of the change of state of the soul, showing half of the journey (1-6) in the mortal world and half (8-13) in the otherworld. As such it can be a great number on which to finalise or end something. 7 the final step The sequence of numbers as they appear with each appearance of a nawal. Here we see that the sequence begins with 1 and ends with 7, giving 7 as a number of finality.

6 No’j (10th March 2024)

6 N'ojNo’j, the nawal of the brain and thought is embellished by the number 6 which brings a higher essence into the physical ideas.

These ideas may be practical and relevant in the physical world, yet simultaneously fulfil a greater purpose.

Veintena Rukub Mam

We have now completed the first 20 days of the new year 12 No’j. These may have carried an interesting energy as the new Mam or year bearer takes charge. As the Mam settles and we move into the second veintena (20 day period) of the solar cycle, Rukub’ Mam, we enter a time to stabilise our knowledge.

As such, No’j is also a day associated with divination.

This energy is not necessarily social, it can lead to becoming absorbed into one’s work, lost in one’s thoughts. The influence of No’j can create ideas which may be very much ahead of their time. Do not be surprised if ideas you have on this day take a little time to catch on, the people you express the ideas to may need a little time to process, to see the genius within the idea. No’j is also one of the classic year bearers, or year lords. As a year bearer it is thought to be one of the more beneficial and benign energies.
