4 E’ (22nd August 2026)

This is a day which highlights the physical journey. The energy of the journey of discovery comes down to Earth as the nawal E’ combines with the number 4. Perhaps it is a good day to make payments to facilitate progress on our physical path.

E’ days always have an auspicious energy about them when it comes to travelling. On E’ days our life path makes its presence known. Sometimes this is not what we were planning at that point with our conscious minds. Synchronicity steps in and puts us back on track. Maybe we meet someone on the road who fulfils that role and takes us in a different direction. If there is a journey to be made, today is certainly a good day for it.

Today, the combination with the number 4 brings that concept very much into the physical realm. It is a day of physical journeys and pay attention to the physical markers on your path. E’ is the essence of the discoverer, not just of the way or the path. It gives us an impulse of exploration, which includes the understanding of how things work. As such today is a great day to get really grounded with your understanding of where you are going and why. It may be a day on which your physical destination helps to ground the discoveries you have made so far along your journey. Pay attention to the way that you walk your physical path and the impact that has on others.

The Deluge

During the course of my reading and research I come across various interesting snippets of information. I just came across this one which I find very interesting. The page below is from the Dresden Codex. I was just investigating the reappearance of Venus as an evening star next week, when I stumbled across this. You may recognise the depiction of Chak Chel (or Ixchel) from my previous posts about Kawok.

However, my attention was drawn to some detail I had never noticed. On the water flowing from Ixchel’s jar there is a number and a glyph. The number is 5.1.0 and the glyph is Eb (E’). Apparently, 5.1.0 would be equal to 1820. This would be using the numbers as a date format in the long count (5 Tun, 1 Uinal and 0 Kin (5 x 360) + (1 x 20) + 0). 1820 days is equal to 7 revolutions of the 260 day calendar, so repeating 1820 days would always come back to the day of 4 E’. The next pages in the Dresden Codex give the repeating number 65, and move through 4 No’j, 4 Iq’ and then 4 Kej before returning to 4 E’.

Interestingly, in the sky band on the cosmic caiman’s body, the glyph for Venus is shown. Below it are two solar eclipse glyphs. Apparently 4 E’ (Eb) is seen as the day of the deluge which brings fertility to the world.

The El Mirador Trek 2027

On this day of journeys I have decided to share the details of my El Mirador trek next year. As many of you know, I have made the El Mirador Trek 8 times now, taking a small group with me each time. In 2026 I made two journeys which were very much retreat type journeys. In 2027 my focus will be more on exploration and adventure as I extend the time trekking in the jungle from 6 days to 10 days, and the distance to 150km. Of course, there will always be ceremony involved, but next year’s trek will take us deeper into the jungle to the remote sites of La Muralla and Naachtun.

The Nawal E’

Footprints on the road — Footprints mark the road, from the Dresden Codex

Nawal E’ represents the journey of discovery, the life path in both its physical and spiritual aspects. E’ is the explorer, it craves novelty. It inspires travel to understand different cultures and ways of life, it is a seeker of experience. It can be a thrill seeker, and sometimes will take risks to understand what it is examining. Whilst it gains experience and understanding through physical travel, E’ also drives us to explore our inner world, helping us to understand our own minds and hearts, and those of others. E’ sometimes creates a restlessness. A desire to find new things within the world means that E’ finds it difficult to sit still.

E’ can sometimes cause us to explore simply for the sake of exploration. We seek the new experience because it is there. This can give rise to a lack of direction, aimless wandering. However, even in its wanderings E’ is discovering. It may not know exactly where it is going, but it will when it gets there. In it’s best aspect, E’ seeks out knowledge and experience in order to form an understanding which brings wisdom. E’ enjoys sharing the wisdom gained with its peers, for the enrichment of the community.

The Number Four

The number 4 is very important within Mayan mythology. Four represents the cardinal points, the four colours of maize, the four carriers of the year, the two equinoxes and two solstices, as well as midnight, sunrise, midday and sunset. The number four is representative of the four first men. It was said to be they who raised the sky from the sea to create the world we live on. In Mayan myth it is four pillars that support the sky from the Earth. As you can imagine, four is a number which represents stability, a good, down-to-Earth number.

After the possibly turbulent energy of the previous two days, the day 4 Kame brings an opportunity to use the experiences you have been through to stabilise a physical transformation.

The power of the transformations afforded by the nawal Kame comes through facing up to experiences that often would rather be avoided. We learn through all experiences. However, the most important turning points often come about as a result of confronting the most “unpleasant” situations. These are the ones which can cause great fear or fright. But they are the ones which polish the soul when we choose to face them. This energy brings us the strength to do this by understanding the value they bring to our journey. In addition to increasing our wisdom and understanding of life, they may also lead to the inspiration of great art. Artistic talent is highly connected with the nawal Kame, and perhaps these transformative experiences are the reason why.

The energy of the number 4 brings these transformations into the physical and material realm. This can be seen as strong physical challenges to face, what we might euphemistically call learning experiences. It is only possible to learn how to come back to balance by being knocked off balance in first. It may also be a day in which our true physical challenges arise. Eventually we must meet and overcome our demons and today this challenge may be very much in the earthly plane. Thankfully we can call on our ancestors for assistance.

However, with the stability afforded by the energy of the number 4, the end result looks rather positive. Spiritual transformation may seem like an impractical ideal, but the energy of the 4 helps to bring this ideal into practical, everyday use.

Nawal Kame

Kame relates to death, which often makes people nervous. However, this nawal is seen as an extremely positive day. Birth is the gateway into the mortal life, death the gateway into the eternal. In many shamanistic traditions, the initiate goes through several death experiences during training. This can be through the use of particular herbs, or sometimes through accident or illness. In these experiences the density of the mortal realm falls away and the greater understanding emerges. It can often be described as a spiritual transformation. In the Popul Vuh, the Mayan book of creation, the Hero Twins descend to the underworld, Xibalba, to confront the Lords of Death. They pass the many challenges set for them, but eventually end up being tricked by the Lord of Death. Instead of giving in, the Hero Twins choose to sacrifice themselves.

They give instructions to a pair of seers to convince the Lords of Death to grind the Twins’ bones to dust and throw the dust in the river. Everything went according to plan and five days later the twins appeared as catfish in the river. They then transformed into vagabond “magicians”. In this way we see a literal transformation from the crusader (Tijax) through death (Kame) to the higher self (Ix). This is the potential of the Kame day, to face ones fears and attain a higher perspective, to advance the journey of your soul. This is also a day to remember your ancestors and friends that have passed into the other realm, to remember what they taught you, and to thank them for their wisdom that helped you to grow.

This is a day to focus on the stability and physical requirements of your home, family and community. It is a day to focus on supporting people through real-world issues.

The combination of the noble authority of the nawal Aj and the stability of the number 4 should give rise to a dependable and solid day. This is a day of support and courage, particularly for those who take the lead.

There is possibly no greater steadying influence greater than that of the nawal Aj. Aj is the one who keeps order, the pillar which both supports and sustains. It keeps everything in its rightful place to bring harmony and growth to the community it supports. Aj brings leadership qualities of the most altruistic kind. It provides an energy which organises to ensure that the community is cared for.

Today it is combined with the number 4. This brings with it an essence of stability, particularly in the Earthly plane. This represents the most basic level of material existence. This could be seen as stability through leadership which will work to ensure that the most basic of material needs are fulfilled. It does not necessarily take into account any other planes of existence, the focus is purely in our world.

The Nawal Aj

The nawal Aj is related to many things which generally revolve around leadership on an earthly level. It is also known as the cornstalk, sometimes the staff of life. It represents the spinal column within the body, which allows us to stand tall, proud and brave. As the cornstalk, it has its roots in the Earth, and its head in the sky.

If we wish to lead in a just manner, we should cultivate our connection with the Heart of the Sky and the Heart of the Earth. Above all, Aj is an authority, it is gentle, yet noble. It works quietly for the community it leads. It does not seek the limelight. This is a day that seeks sustenance for its people, that keeps everything in its rightful place. It is a day when we ask for the courage and bravery to stand up straight and tall, to do the right thing.

4 Tz’ikin (27th April 2026)

Ground your vision today and manifest your inspiration into a physical reality. The nawal of prosperity and vision combined with the number of stability should give some interesting properties to this day.

The prosperity of the nawal Tz’ikin may come from its foresight. Tz’ikin is an energy which connects the sky to the surface of the Earth. When flying high, the bird can see the way ahead. It can perceive this new path stretching out ahead of us. We are only on the fourth day of this trecena of E’, the new path that we are taking.

Today allows us to envision the path ahead. When we have foresight of both the challenges and the benefits of the path, we can take appropriate action. Appropriate action then leads to prosperity. We can walk our path happily, supported on our journey. Combining these properties with the physical stability of the number 4, it becomes obvious that manifesting your vision into the physical today is likely to bring success.

In the ancient Mayan reliefs, the Principle Bird Deity is an aspect of Itzamna, the ancient creator sky god. Having such a connection to a creator, gives Tz’ikin a great ability to rise above those around it, seeking perfection as it reaches towards the Heart of the Sky. It also gives it the ability to create through its voice.

Tz’ikin days are days to ask for what you would like to bring into your life, what you would manifest into your world. You might use your words in prayer or in everyday life, to your peers, your boss or your bank manager! Today is a day when those words should carry an essence of order, and should lead to a physical result. It should also be noted that the power of creativity through words is highlighted on Tz’ikin days, these are days to watch your speech and be aware of what you are asking for.

Nawal Tz’ikin

Nawal Tz’ikin is the nawal of prosperity, which sometimes seems odd to people seeking “higher knowledge”. However, this is not the same as the greed of capitalist consumerism. If your family is starving, you are more likely to fall off the road, perhaps into dishonesty or criminal activity. By asking nawal Tz’ikin for prosperity in your life, you are more likely to be able to help others. You can be more constructive within your community. That is not to say that your own input will not be necessary, just that your hard work will pay off.

Tz’ikin has the ability to give visions, it helps people to see the bigger picture within life. It also helps people to focus on details. It has grand aspirations and helps people to rise to the top of their abilities.

Similarly, just as Tz’ikin can focus, its broad vision can occasionally cause distraction. Sometimes, just when it is heading towards its goal it can be distracted by something “shiny.” Thus, this energy gives an ability to create great social networks, but sometimes spends too much time trying to maintain them.

Today could be a day of down-to-earth communication. High ideals are great, but only if they can be understood by everyone. Even if they are are rather esoteric, today they can be grounded and expressed easily.

The beneficial properties of the number 4 bring stability and a touch of gentleness to the strong and unpredictable energy of the nawal Iq´. Today might prove to be very suitable for implementing inspired changes.

Iq´ days can be difficult. Sudden changes challenge us, and blustery words can cause arguments. When we have high winds here, many people in the village get sick shortly afterwards, usually due to the extra dust in the atmosphere around them, so the wind is blamed as a bringer of sickness too. In general Iq´ days tend to have a bad reputation, although the without the wind there would be no change in seasons and therefore no life.

However, the energy of Iq’ today can really be rather different. When channelled correctly, the energy of the wind can be dynamic and productive, and the energy of the number 4 brings the degree of stability required to tame its erratic nature. Inspiration comes through on the divine breath supported by the qualities of the four directions – vitality, wisdom, spirit and healing.

If you have been waiting for inspiration to voice some ideas, today could be the day to express them. The stability of the 4 gives the ability to bring this inspiration into the physical world. It allows us to manifest our words into a solid reality. It is also a day to make changes, particularly in your physical world. The changing energy of the wind fills your sails. It helps you move forward as the calm predictability of the number 4 puts you in control of your direction.

The Nawal Iq’

Nawal Iq’ is another strong nawal. It represents communication and particularly divine inspiration. It is the wind, the breath of life, that which brings the change in seasons.

The communication brought by Iq’ can be enlightening and inspiring. It is the breath of the divine which flows through us all, in fact the word for soul is Saq Iq’ – white breath. When our breath stops, our divine essence leaves our physical body. When we engage ourselves with the divine breath we are able to create, to manifest with our words, to inspire those around us. However, Iq’ also has a destructive side. It has the ability to blow like a hurricane and may level everything before it. It is the angry words which cut down everything in their path.

Hurricane is one of the few English words which is actually derived from a Mayan word- Junrakan, meaning “one footed”. Junrakan is another name for the Heart of the Sky, one of the creator deities. Once again it seems that certain patterns follow through the sequence of the nawales which are interrelated. Imox, the female creative principle, or egg, is fertilised be Iq’, the male principle. Their combination results in Aq’ab’al, the conception and a change in the state, bringing the dream into reality.

Iq’ is a day of communication, a day of inspiration. It can be a great day to express yourself through written or particularly verbal means. It is also a day on which changes happen. You can either embrace those changes or resist them. However, be aware that the wind blows forcefully and resistance of change requires a great deal of energy. Embracing change helps you to learn to dance like a leaf in the wind.
