Here are the days of the Chol Q’ij mapped onto the Gregorian month of May 2025.
On the 5th the day of 11 Tijax lines up with Bealtaine. Bealtaine can be seen as the first day of summer in the Celtic calendar. It is also around the time of the Eta Aquarid meteor shower, which peaks on the morning of the 5th. This year it falls between the new moon and full moon. However, as the moon sets just after 1am and the meteors peak just before dawn, it could give an interesting display, clouds permitting.
On the final day of May, 11 K’at, Venus will reach its greatest Western elongation. From our perspective it will have its greatest separation from the sun, what might also look like its highest point in the dawn sky. It has taken around 60 days to get there from its first appearance in the morning sky on 28th March 2025. It will now slowly get progressively lower over the next 200 days until it disappears from view on 1 Ajmak on the 19th November 2025.
