7 Iq’ (12th August 2026) – Solar Zenith Transit at 14.8N

7 Iq This may be an excellent day to wrap up any ongoing conversations, discussions or negotiations you may have been having. However, be aware of the words you choose. Their finality may lead to the burning of some bridges you may later have to rebuild. It is difficult not to use the phrase “the final word” in relation to the energy of this day.

Once again the nawal Iq’ brings a strong energy of change and communication to the day. However, today its combination with the number of balance may lead to some indecision.

The day 7 Iq’ is a day when you find yourself easily able to communicate at many different levels. It is a balanced day that might not find the full inspiring force of Iq’, but is unlikely to find great anger either. Today should bring balanced, firm, but fair communication. It could be a good day to finalise changes that you may have been considering.

Solar Zenith

Here in Guatemala, at 14.8 degrees north of the equator, we experience this phenomenon two time per year. The Solar Zenith is when the Sun crosses the hypothetical North – South line (the Meridian) at 90 degrees. If you live outside of the tropics, you will be accustomed to the Sun being at its greatest height in the sky on the solstice. That will be June in the Northern hemisphere or December in the Southern Hemisphere.

Here at 14.8 degrees North, we can add the Zenith into the mix. Between August 11th – 13th and April 29th – May 1st, the Sun will be directly overhead at solar noon. We will experience what seems to be no shadow! Why is this so interesting? Between 12th August and 29th April is 260 days, and between 29th April and 12th August is 105 days.  Some people have theorised the the sacred calendar may have been developed at this latitude due to this phenomenon. This was possibly at the site of Izapa, near modern-day city of Tapachula in southwest Mexico. Several Maya sites have structures that mark the zenith transit, often zenith tubes. One possible reason that the zenith transit was so important was because of the planting of maize. Here in Guatemala, the rain becomes sporadic by the beginning of November. By mid November, we are often fully into dry season. The corn takes around 105 days to grow, mature and harvest, and 105 days from 12th August would be around the 25th November. Therefore, it is important to plant the last crop of corn before the second solar zenith transit. August is usually canicular, the dry part in the middle of rainy season. It is not really possible to know whether we will have clear skies or cloud, but if we have clear skies I will set up a Facebook live video of my observation of the Solar Zenith Transit using levels and tubes to mark the moment.

Total Solar Eclipse

The maximum point of eclipse will occur at 17:46 UTC. The path of totality will travel from the artic through Greenland and Iceland, northern Portugal, and central Spain.  A partial solar eclipse will be visible over northwest Europe, northwest Africa, Canada and the northeast USA .

Eclipses were very significant to the Maya. The picture below is from the eclipse tables of the Dresden codex, where calculations show when eclipses (both lunar and solar) will take place. In general, most references to eclipses, either lunar or solar, tend to be rather negative in nature. They are seen as a war in the heavens. There is some evidence that wars between different classic era city states occurred directly after solar eclipses.

During solar eclipses, the moon is so angry with the sun that she bites him. It is also seen as  either an ant or a jaguar who is said to have bitten the eclipsed celestial object. This can be particularly apparent with partial eclipses, the bite mark on the sun being very much how leaf-cutter ants make circular holes on leaves. The people sometimes make a great deal of noise (usually by banging on pots and pans) to drive away the animals attacking the sun or moon.

Of course, the covering of the face of the sun, darkness occurring in the middle of the day is a hugely dramatic experience both then and now. The cutting off of the energy source for our planet would have very serious consequences if it went on for longer.

If we imagine the numbers 1 through 13 as a pyramid, the number seven would be at the top. Seven is the number of balance, it gives the ability to weigh up situations and see all points of view. While this may be very noble, it may lead to indecision.

However, it is also known as a number of death and endings, which would seem strange as it is only half way through. It is another representation of the change of state of the soul, showing half of the journey (1-6) in the mortal world and half (8-13) in the otherworld. As such it can be a great number on which to finalise or end something.

13 Iq'Important messages may come through loud and clear, from this world or the other. The question will then be whether we choose to listen.

The energy of the nawal Iq’ is strong and can be unpredictable. It can bring change into our lives. This may be sudden and unexpected, changing our direction or blowing something at us without warning. When this energy is combined with the number 13, the strongest of the numbers, this may result in great changes. The power of the spirit world may be behind them.

Iq’ days are great days on which to make announcements, as your words are empowered and carry more weight. If you have something big to say, today would be an excellent day for it. 9 KameToday can be seen as a day when the cycle of life and death is clearly present. It could show us death and rebirth in the same moment.

We have a choice about the way we confront challenges. The energy of the day would suggest that compassion and acceptance will give the required result. An important transformation may occur through the integration of the feminine aspect.

Often in life, we like to preserve the status quo. We have crafted our life in a certain way and that gives us security. However, life is never still, and even in death, there is movement and transformation. To grow in all ways, we need change in our lives. New experiences and challenges are what help us to mature and develop, they help our souls to ripen. The energy of Kame brings us those opportunities to face our fears and develop through the process of overcoming them.

We see in this day with the nawal of death combined with the number of life. They are both part of the whole. Equal and opposite forces, combining as one and showing us the way of nature. They are the ebb and flow of the life force energy. Through our observation and experience of this, we are able to connect with the wisdom of our ancestors. It is said that by speaking the names of our ancestors we keep them alive. Perhaps today could be seen very much as breathing life into them. If you need to tap into their discernment and courage, today might be a good day to call on them.

Kame relates to death, which often makes people nervous. However, this nawal is seen as an extremely positive day. Birth is the gateway into the mortal life, death the gateway into the eternal. In many shamanistic traditions, the initiate goes through several death experiences during training. This can be through the use of particular herbs, or sometimes through accident or illness. In these experiences the density of the mortal realm falls away and the greater understanding emerges. It can often be described as a spiritual transformation. In the Popul Vuh, the Mayan book of creation, the Hero Twins descend to the underworld, Xibalba, to confront the Lords of Death. They pass the many challenges set for them, but eventually end up being tricked by the Lord of Death. Instead of giving in, the Hero Twins choose to sacrifice themselves.

They give instructions to a pair of seers to convince the Lords of Death to grind the Twins’ bones to dust and throw the dust in the river. Everything went according to plan and five days later the twins appeared as catfish in the river. They then transformed into vagabond “magicians”. In this way we see a literal transformation from the crusader (Tijax) through death (Kame) to the higher self (Ix). This is the potential of the Kame day, to face ones fears and attain a higher perspective, to advance the journey of your soul. This is also a day to remember your ancestors and friends that have passed into the other realm, to remember what they taught you, and to thank them for their wisdom that helped you to grow.

Putting a little extra effort into the clarity of your communication today will help overcome possible negative outcomes. 11 Iq' With the potentially wild and unpredictable energy today, it is more important than ever to take a breath before reacting. As the divine breath, nawal Iq’ reminds us to focus on our breathing.

I once described the energy of 11 days rather like a firework with a broken stick. It has a great deal of energy to expend but lacks direction. Even when it starts in a direction, it may change in the blink of an eye. With the energy of many nawales, this might be relatively easy to deal with, but Iq’ is also unpredictable. Iq’ can move from its soft, gentle breeziness to its hurricane force very quickly. This is a day when sudden, unexpected changes are highly possible.

With Iq’ governing communication, we could expect a similar experience concerning our interactions with others today too. The energy of this day could lead to a lot of chatty conversations. These could again be rather directionless, although that is not to say that there will be no wisdom in them – it just may take a long time to get to the point. When you were in Ireland you didn’t know you were going to paint that masterpiece. You may not have even known why you were there.  This is how 11 works. You are sure you need to be doing something, but unsure why. You are collecting experience through many wanderings.

10 Iq' An emphasis on cooperative communication could make this a very sociable, chatty day. The strength of both the number and the nawal Iq’ could lead to some inspired words and changes.

Whilst Iq’ is known for its blustery nature, there are some combinations which really can bring out the best in it. Its combination with the number 10 is one of these. If you were ever looking for a day to hold a community meeting this would be the prime candidate. The inspiring words conveyed through the divine breath come into contact with the number which represents community and cooperation. We could expect our oratory skills to be enhanced today, especially when we are surrounded by our family and friends. It is a great day to make speeches and to listen to them. 6 KameTransformation through facing our fears may be apparent today. As we confront our demons we grow in strength and experience. Today those fears may be connected with our family values.

It is a day to bring stability to any transformations you may wish to go through. You might feel drawn to call upon your ancestors, embrace their wisdom, and allow their spirit to support your change. The energy of the nawal Kame may bring forth our challenges, it also gives us the resources to face them. Whilst the challenge you face may be great, today is a very positive day to tackle that challenge. You have the support of your family in both this world and the spirit world, should you ask for it.

1 Iq'Like a breath of fresh air, new communication begins today. Inspiring words can be like seeds which may take some time to take root. It is a day to plant the ideas of changes, but actual effects may take some time.

This is a day for potential of movement. Make a new start today as the cleansing energy of the nawal Iq’ blows away the dust and cobwebs. The energy behind this movement may need nurturing, some encouragement and support, possibly through inspiring words. Likewise, maybe the angry words associated with Iq’ are tempered today, a little more gentle. 

Today is the beginning of the trecena of Iq’, which may have several properties all tied together with quality of movement. This can include inspiration and communication through the movement of breath and change of state through movement. We could also view qualities of the trecena of Iq’ as a microcosm of the year lord of Iq’. Iq’ years are known for the sudden changes that may occur. This may bring anger or upset to those who are unready or unwilling to change. The strength of Iq’ is such that the changes cannot be avoided. They can embraced or resisted, but will go ahead regardless. Of course, embracing them is really the way to proceed. This trecena may require a degree of flexibility in order to get the most out of it. Now is the time for inspired movement and change.

Within the Macewal Q’ij, today again marks the beginning of a new month as we travel through the solar year. Today is the first day of Rukub Tumuxux translated as the second season of flying ants. Within this season is the winter solstice, the darkest day of the northern hemisphere, from this season, the days begin to lighten as we start to move towards the arrival of the new Mam.

Nawal Iq’ is another strong nawal. It represents communication and particularly divine inspiration. It is the wind, the breath of life, that which brings the change in seasons.

The communication brought by Iq’ can be enlightening and inspiring. It is the breath of the divine which flows through us all, in fact the word for soul is Saq Iq’ – white breath. When our breath stops, our divine essence leaves our physical body. When we engage ourselves with the divine breath we are able to create, to manifest with our words, to inspire those around us. However, Iq’ also has a destructive side. It has the ability to blow like a hurricane and may level everything before it. It is the angry words which cut down everything in their path.

Hurricane is one of the few English words which is actually derived from a Mayan word- Junrakan, meaning “one footed”. Junrakan is another name for the Heart of the Sky, one of the creator deities. Once again it seems that certain patterns follow through the sequence of the nawales which are interrelated. Imox, the female creative principle, or egg, is fertilised be Iq’, the male principle. Their combination results in Aq’ab’al, the conception and a change in the state, bringing the dream into reality.

Iq’ is a day of communication, a day of inspiration. It can be a great day to express yourself through written or particularly verbal means. It is also a day on which changes happen. You can either embrace those changes or resist them. However, be aware that the wind blows forcefully and resistance of change requires a great deal of energy. Embracing change helps you to learn to dance like a leaf in the wind.

The number 1 is representative of the seed, of unity. It represents birth and beginnings. It is a low and odd number, which usually represents something challenging. However, the seed can grow into a mighty tree, it is full of potential. It needs the correct nutrients and conditions to germinate and develop its potential. 7 Iq This may be an excellent day to wrap up any ongoing conversations, discussions or negotiations you may have been having. However, be aware of the words you choose. Their finality may lead to the burning of some bridges you may later have to rebuild. It is difficult not to use the phrase “the final word” in relation to the energy of this day.

Once again the nawal Iq’ brings a strong energy of change and communication to the day. However, today its combination with the number of balance may lead to some indecision.

The Number Seven

If we imagine the numbers 1 through 13 as a pyramid, the number seven would be at the top. Seven is the number of balance, it gives the ability to weigh up situations and see all points of view. While this may be very noble, it may lead to indecision.

However, it is also known as a number of death and endings, which would seem strange as it is only half way through. It is another representation of the change of state of the soul, showing half of the journey (1-6) in the mortal world and half (8-13) in the otherworld. As such it can be a great number on which to finalise or end something.
