June 2020

Here are the days of the Chol Q’ij mapped onto the Gregorian month of June 2020.

In these next few days we have several celestial events. Of course, we will have the June solstice, which occurs on 20th June at 21:43 UTC this year. We also have the reappearance of Venus. Early in the month Venus will move into its inferior conjunction, where it will pass between the Earth and the Sun. It will move out of its evening phase and move into its morning phase. According to the Dresden Codex, these events will occur on 11 K’at (6th June) and 6 E’ (14th June). You may like to use this information to watch the heliacal rise of Venus on the 14th June, where you will see it appear on the Eastern horizon just before sunrise. The light comes back to the world, and what has been hidden in the darkness is revealed, it is sometimes seen as the time of the downfall of leaders. We also have a lunar eclipse on June 5th and a solar eclipse on June 21st, so celestially it is a very active month. It is also rather interesting that the Trecena of Ajpu, the Sun, the light of the world, enters on June 22nd after the return of Venus, the solstice and solar eclipse.
